Shaare Torah's Covid 19 policies (as of Nov. 2020)

Coronavirus Resources for our community

Shaare Torah is here to help if you, or someone you know, should need it. There is no precedent for what our community is going through right now.  Many people are experiencing challenges they never could have imagined. We are here to support you during this difficult time and want to make you aware of resources that provide social services, financial aid and food assistance. Even if you do not need help right now, please keep this email for future reference should your circumstances change.
The Hesed Committee sent an email recently reminding everyone of the volunteer network in place. However, we are also able to help with items not handled by our volunteer network.  Your call and all information will remain strictly private. No one is in this alone.
Resources available for critical needs during this time:
  • Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) provides services related to mental health, special needs, and senior care. Please contact Roberta Drucker: 301-610-8369 or
  • Shaare Torah's Hesed Fund provides funding to support members of the community who need help with expenses related to food, shelter, and medical assistance.  Please contact Matt Oziel:
  • Hebrew Free Loan of Greater Washington provides community members with interest-free loans to help overcome financial challenges.  Please call 301-859-0346 or visit them online.
  • Adel Fund provides support for short-term basic needs such as mortgage/rent payments and medical support.  Please call: 240-621-0770 or visit them online.
  • Yad Yehuda offers support for programs like Tomchei Shabbos and the Capital Kosher Pantry, and provides emergency cash and food assistance to individuals.  Please call: 301-842-7135 or visit them online.
  • All of the above organizations (including our own Hesed Fund) have received generous funding from the Emergency Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.  We are grateful for this funding and if you would like information on more services and resources, visit Federation's Jconnect Resource Page.
No matter the need, you are not in this alone.
Shaare Torah is committed to helping our community through these uncertain times.
We wish everyone strength and good health and if you need us, please do not hesitate to call.

Stay healthy and wash your hands,
Matt Oziel & David Freiman
